- [All sorts of stuff deleted, the upshot is that US games magazines ignore
- the Amiga.]
-
- Yes, and it's classism and pandering to the bigger market--partially.
- There are magazines that toss the Amiga the occasional bone such as Next
- Generation. In fact, I recommend that writers submit articles to them,
- as they've shown a mild interest in printing them.
-
- But there's another problem, and that's distribution. Basically, there's
- one major game importer, BMD, and they keep going in and out of business
- in various forms. Not very stable, and certainly not good enough to
- support big magazines who want review copies of games.
-
- This is where the problem is--can these US magazines even GET games to
- review? If there's no distributor, they have to go overseas--which is
- expensive just to make the phone call. I've done it quite often and am
- horrified with the results. Even though Amiga Report is an international
- magazine and only a minority of its readers are American, the fact that
- I'm not British or European seems to turn them off, and very few
- publishers have been responsive, or they want written, snail mailed requests
- which seems a bit excessive in the age of e-mail and fax.
-
- Notable exceptions have been Team17, Guildhall, OTM, and Vulcan. (In
- fact, Vulcan and I are working on a promotion right now.)
-
- Virtually every other publisher in the UK I've contacted has ignored my
- requests.
-
- If an Amiga magazine can't get a hold of these games easily, why should
- CGW waste their time?
